I
am a graduate
from Savannah
College of Art
and Design, with
a B.F.A. in
Visual
Effects.
I'm quite elated
over it.
There isn't too
much else going
on, my family
just left town
and now it's
time to get back
to some
work.
Speaking of
work, I've
progressed with
the
dandelions.
This is actually
a render from
last Thursday,
I've just been
so busy with the
process of a
graduation
ceremony and
several farewells
to friends that
I haven't been
able to post it
until now.

After it finishes
raining over here,
I'm going to take
pictures of the
sky and use that
for the background
instead of the one
I'm using
now. There
is still quite a
lot I'd like to do
to this, however
I'm please with
how it's shaping
up so far.

dandelions |

It's
about 5 days
until graduation
now. I'm
finishing up
some edits for
my may demo reel.
It should be up
within the next
day or two under
the 'reel' tab.
On
a completely separate
note, I've been
taking a
literature class
this
quarter.
Our final
project is to
create a piece of art based off
of one of the
books we've read
in class.
I've chosen
"The
Bluest Eye"
by Toni
Morrison.
Without giving
away too much of
the story, the
book is mostly
about a young African
American girl
praying every
day for beauty during
sometime around
the 1940's I believe.
This book
has quite a
large amount of
motifs in it,
especially
involving
flowers and
plants.
When I talk
about the main
character,
Pecola, the best
way to describe
her that I can
think of is to
compare her to
dandelions and
how they are
described in the
book.
So I'm making some
CG dandelions.

For
right now I'm only
doing some tests using maya
fur to create
the little puffs
on top of the
seeds, and the
rest of it is
being modeled by
hand. I
have until
Thursday to
finish it and
come up with an
artists
statement.
It's nothing
exciting yet, but
soon maybe...

wraps with a pigeon |
may

Oh
hi! This is my first
blog entry.
I've
been working on this
collaborative
project for this
amazing animator, Neil
Helm. (You
should check out
some of his awesome
work by clicking
right here)
Some of the things I
did on the project
included a bit of
surface work for a
few planes, airport
hangers, and such
as. Out of all
of it, I'm quiet
content with this
pigeon I painted
textures for.
So here's some stuff
from that project.

My solution for
the square polygon
feathers was to
paint a transparency
map in a separate
images' blue
channel. In
the red channel, I
painted around the
neck area where I
wanted to put in a
shader to give the
appearance of the pearlecent
effect pigeon's
have on the
feathers around
their neck.
